Elena Márquez Segura is a Beatriz Galindo Distinguished Researcher in the Department of Computer Science and Engineering at Universidad Carlos III de Madrid. She has a multidisciplinary background, with a B.Sc. and M.Sc in Telecommunication Engineering (Escuela Técnica Superior de Ingenieros, Universidad de Sevilla); Master's studies in Interactive Systems Engineering (KTH, Royal Institute of Technology, Stockholm); and a Ph.Lic. and Ph.D. in Human-Computer Interaction (Stockholm University, Stockholm; and Uppsala University, Uppsala, respectively).
Elena works at the intersection of Interaction Design (IxD), Human-Computer Interaction (HCI), and Games and Play. In particular, her work centers on embodied design methods; and on designing and studying technology-supported physical and social experiences, many of which in the realms of games and play. Elena has worked with a wide range of technologies, including wearables, movement-based technologies, mixed reality (MR) and virtual reality (VR) environments, and robots. She is especially interested in application domains that involve physical performance, such as rehabilitation, physical training, and sports.
