BODYinTRANSIT overall aim is to establish new fundamental research knowledge base for the computation of dynamic individualized blueprints of mental body representations (MBR) that will enable future technologies and applications for Body Transformation Experiences (BTE). This will be achieved by establishing a theoretical ‘BTE design framework’ and by the outcomes of ground-breaking scientific Research Objectives (ROs) targeting induction, measurement, support, preservation and personalization of BTE in everyday contexts:

  • RO1: To develop a theoretical framework integrating multidisciplinary research on MBR and guiding the design of future BTE technologies.
  • RO2: To identify, map and validate non-visual cue combinations – auditory, tactile, proprioceptive - and underlying top-down and bottom-up mechanisms that are the most effective for transforming MBR in terms of body appearance and body capabilities.
  • RO3: To understand and quantify the within- and between-subject inter-dependence of MBR with the variables of behaviour, emotion and self-identity, expanding BODYinTRANSIT forward model.
  • RO4: To investigate the short- and long-term effects in MBR malleability and persistence of the effects in complex environments, including longitudinal studies and field studies with representative populations (body image concerns, physically inactive, dancers).
  • RO5: To lay the knowledge basis for new technologies supporting the “inner fashion” concept which uses smart clothing to shape body perception, as validated in real-life studies.
